With easily one of the best band names in Australian music history, DRUNK MUMS come with plenty of wraps! This quirky indie garage outfit deserve every accolade.
Who are the fucking DRUNK MUMS??? ... 5 loveable crazy punks ... Jake Doyle - Guitar/Vox, Dean Whitby - Guitar/Vox, Adam Ritchie - Bass/Vox, Johnny Badlove - Drums, Isaac Forsyth - Tambourine.
The first time we hear them our heads were turned upside down . We need to release this LP ... we need people to listen ... there is still hope .... God save AUSTRALIA !
After a hugely successful 2013, Cairns-turned-Melbourne music juggernauts and kings of punk influenced pub rock Drunk Mums release his self-titled debut. A stew of grunge, punk and rowdy Aussie rock. Fast beats and ball-busting rhythms, with an infectious chorus that begs to be heard live.
But there is more .. the artwork was rejected for depicting, in the bands own words, “some haggard, aged titties”. Recalling The Voltaire Twins’ dramas with YouTube, the image was also removed by moderators from the band’s Facebook page yesterday.
In a statement sent to FL today, Drunk Mums said they refused iTunes request to provide an alternate censored cover. “Stuff those suits at iTunes,” they wrote. “This image is spot on and best represents Drunk Mums. All the people who matter will still find us buy our record.”
The band said they come up with the concept for the cover after a brainstorming session over a few beers. “We put an ad on Gumtree and within an hour got a response from a ‘stripper’ named Peaches. Hepped up on VB we jumped in the car and drove straight to her club and for a small fee – well, we got the album cover we wanted, and a quick lappie. Bonza!”
After rampaging through pubs and venues across the country, the five-piece have amassed a huge following. Their brand of Aussie garage/slacker rock, plus the lads’ wild, rowdy stage theatrics, has exposed the band to listeners far and wide – over 28 million of them, in fact. ‘Chitty Chitty’, an original track by the group, was the background song to the YouTube smash hit ‘Dragon Baby’. Adding to the virality of the clip was the decision to screen the short to 64% of US film screens in November last year.
The band have played alongside indie heavyweights Guitar Wolf and Personal & The Pizzas, and last year also saw lead singer Dean Whitby cap off 2013 by supporting legendary guitarist Johnny Marr (The Smiths) for his sold- out shows at the Corner Hotel and the Northcote Social Club (Melbourne).
And NOW YOU CAN BUY THEIR Lmtd VINYL, before it becomes a collector's ítem!!!!
